Banal Muffins: Opportunities for proper engagement

I am concerned with the seemingly inconsequential moments that occur within everyday life. Through video, performance and installation, they are expanded and retranslated into moments of poetry. The ephemeral nature of these happenings are mirrored in the use of similarly ephemeral materials. The work plays upon the relationship between objects, those artefacts of the everyday. By presenting them in a different manner, the extraordinary is teased out from the familiar.

This is further manifested in the relationship between myself and the objects, I involve myself in these situations of inevitable failure, and my active resignation embodies the idea of a more self realising kind. It is both performance and my own exploration of the moment, the shovelling of cold, banal noodles into my mouth invokes both real and metaphorical nausea.

To create a sense of tension, I use an entropic whisk. There is an excessive amount of effort and energy output in relation to the outcome, in order to imbue a greater sense of tragedy, one that comprises of precariousness, uncertainty and humor, all embodied within a balance of intertwining dualities.
